In 2024, the Public Security Police (PSP) stepped up security in the festivities’ key areas, focusing on preventing crimes commonly associated with large gatherings, such as pickpocketing and vehicle theft. Description

The cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia drew up a mobility and safety plan for the 2024 São João night celebrations, during which the PSP reinforced policing in the areas of the city where the festivities were concentrated.

The local command of the Douro Maritime Police controlled and regulated navigation on the river Douro, close to where the festivities took place.

Members of the Maritime Police worked closely with the crew of the Douro Life-Saving Station to ensure the safety of people attending the festivities on the banks of the River Douro in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, remaining ready to respond in the event of an accident.
